OFGEM have recently launched their 'Be An Energy Shopper' campaign with the hope of motivating a nation to start energy shopping.
OFGEM carried out a survey to support the launch of the campaign and interestingly, it reveals that British households shop around for everything in life, but aren't placing the same level of importance on their energy bills. Perhaps the most shocking result is that 43% of households in the UK don't prioritise 'energy shopping' to help them find the best deal, despite the fact this could save them valuable pounds.
...so LET'S GO SHOPPING!
If you, or anyone you know, feels as if they could be paying too much for their energy bills you can check it out on Energylinx comparison tool , click here to use our 100% free and impartial service - which is 100% approved by OFGEM.

TCRs, TILs, Personal Projections, PTCRs
What do all of these mean to you?
The Tariff Comparison Rate (TCR) is a rate for you to compare a tariff against another. It's a cost per kWh that a typical consumer would pay on that tariff. To work out the rate, we assume an average amount of kWh and then include the unit rates, standing charges and any discounts. However, it's ONLY a guideline to help customers compare tariffs, it's not an actual price. You will never pay these rates.
The Tariff Information Label is what you will start seeing on all your energy bills regardless of gas or electricity supplier. This ensures that everyone presents their information in an identical manner.
Based on the information provided this is an illustration of what you can expect your annual cost for energy to be over the next 12 months. The figures include VAT at the prevailing rate for domestic customers and any discounts applicable to the tariff selected. This is therefore the net cost to you.
This is a personalised version of the TCR, again you will never pay this rate but instead of using average consumption levels we use the ones used to create your Personal Projection. You will only find PTCRs on Energylinx we believe that these provide a more personalised and accurate version to compare one tariff against another.

Effective from the 31st March 2014, OFGEM made it easier for domestic customers to understand the energy market and have access to simpler clearer fairer information.
What does this mean to the consumer?
Four core tariffs for gas and electricity from each supplier, a single standing charge, advanced notice of when your fixed deal ends and more.
From 31 March 2014 you will get clearer bills and an annual statement showing what you have paid and what you owe, details of your supplier's cheapest deal and a summary of your energy usage.
Suppliers must follow our new standards of conduct, which means they must treat you fairly and honestly and not give you misleading information.
All of this makes it even easier switching energy supplier and by taking less than 60 second you can see whether or not you really do have the best deal for energy in your home.
